About Us

Typhoon Aquatics was founded in 2007 with an ambition to progress swimmers from the pram to the podium! Team atmosphere is at the very heart of Typhoon, and after establishing as one of the most sought-after providers of high-quality swimming lessons and coaching in the region we wanted to create a pathway for a competitive team.

In 2019 Lucton Typhoon Swimming Club - LTSC was born! We launched our Swim England affiliated competitive swimming club in partnership with Lucton School - our swim home base. We aim to give our members a highly technical programme combined with race-pace training to develop swimmers into athletes in a fun and friendly environment.

LTSC has flourished under the leadership of an evolving group of volunteers who support our professional coach, handle all financial matters, and manage our professional responsibilities in terms of running an affiliated swim club.

Our Core Team

CHAIRMAN

Charlotte Tully

Charlotte has been the LTSC Chairman since 2021.  Spending her working hours running all things Typhoon Aquatics, she is part of the core team at Typhoon and is a very experienced swim teacher and coach.

What many of you might not know about Charlotte is her own swimming achievements, she has over 20 years of competitive swimming experience. Just some of her highlights include racing at a National level from aged 11 to 16, holder of a National record and competing at Commonwealth trials and more recently competing at the European Masters. Some amazing experiences there which she carries forward in her role as our Chairman.

HEAD COACH

Patrick Blake

Before coaching Patrick himself had his own swimming career at the City of Hereford and City of Bristol swimming club where he achieved numerous county titles and records, regional medals and reached the finals at numerous nationals.  Patrick also qualified for Olympic, World Championship and Commonwealth Games trials.  Patrick started his coaching career at City of Hereford where he led the junior academy.  After moving to Bristol Patrick helped out at the City of Bristol program.  Following his retirement from swimming Patrick returned to City of Hereford where he was the Head Coach before joining LTSC in September 2022.

SECRETARY

Maddy Meek

Maddy has one daughter, who learnt to swim from the age of 1 in Typhoon Tots and worked her way up through lessons with Typhoon.  When she was old enough to join LTSC, Maddy became the Secretary for the club.  Maddy looks after all things membership and admin for the club. More recently Maddy has developed her learning of all things swimming and is a Team Manager helping poolside at competitions, a Swim England Judge 1 official for swim meets, and a Lifeguard supporting the club at sessions for the club.

TREASURER

Lisa Gray

Lisa has been part of the LTSC Committee from the very beginning and plays a fundamental role in the running of the Club.  Lisa initially got involved whilst her daughter was part of the club and has continued on with us.  Lisa takes care of all things club memberships, coaching fees as well as the club accounts.

WELFARE OFFICER

Rachel Read

Rachel has spent over 22 years as a professional fundraiser, enabling charities to complete major developments, promote their essential services and engage successfully with donors.  Since 2018 she has been working with Typhoon Aquatics in a variety of roles finally taking on the position of HR Manager and safeguarding lead in 2021.  Rachel has two children, Emily and Charlie who both loved swimming with Typhoon for many years and now reap the benefits of engaging with such a wonderful sport.

Volunteering

Volunteering for the club is a great way to get involved, and support our swimmers.  There are a number of ways to be involved and we are always looking for help - some volunteer roles are ongoing, others are limited to just one event.

Committee Members

We have roles on our committee available, we meet regularly via either Zoom calls or in person.  The committee collectively led by our Chairman Charlotte propose, discuss and agree on the direction of the club.

Team Managers

Team Managers support our Head Coach Patrick on poolside at swim meets. It's their job to look after the swimmers on the day and make sure they are in the right place at the right time.  For this role 2 online courses are needed, one for Team Managers and another for Safeguarding - which will take two evenings.  The other element required is to obtain an enhanced DBS Certificate for working with children.  The courses and the DBS Certificate are all paid for by the club.

Swimming Officials

There are swimming official roles available to certify in. For more information please get in touch with us.

Timekeeper

The first step is to become Timekeeper Qualified, this means that you could then officiate at Level 3 and 4 swimming meets.  For this role you would be required to complete an online theory course which would take one one evening, and then follow up with one practical session poolside.

Judge 1 / Judge 2 / Judge 2S

The next step from Timekeeper role would be to obtain a Qualification in Judge 1.  This requires an online theory course followed up by 15-20 hours of practical experience at a number of events - covering all elements including, turns, strokes, timekeeping etc.  Once you have Judge 1, you can do a similar requirement for Judge 2 and Judge 2S and so on.
